Our farm consists of 43 acres of mostly rugged terrain ineastern Floyd county, resting on the edge of the Blue Ridge Highlands. Once much larger than it currently is, the farm hadn't activelyproduced crops since the 1970's or earlier, when it was used forgrowing hay, corn, & apples, & for grazing cattle. We recentlyexpanded our operation purchasing an additional 47 acres three milesfrom our home farm site.
We currently manage about 8 acres ofmixed vegetables, cut flowers, herbs, & small fruits. Specialtiesinclude: basils, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, melons, & summersquashes in both traditional & specialty cultivars, with over 100varieties of other crops to fill out the selection. An additional 1.5acres of cover crops such as buckwheat, crimson clover, rye, & oatscreate a 5 acre, 12 year crop rotation plan.
