Passage CreekFarm is run by Katherine Mann and Todd Bolender. Katherine'sparents originally bought this farm in 1990, and spent weekends in FortValley until retiring in 2000. Katherine and Todd were marriedhere in 2003, and moved down here in 2006. We come frombackgrounds that have nothing to do with farming (Katherine studiedpsychology and Todd was a homebuilder), but we slowly gathered enoughexperience to make a go of it ourselves.

2007 was our first full season and it was a great learningexperience. The hardest part for us has been trying to figure outhow much to grow. For example, we didn't think cut flowers wouldbe as popular as they were last year, but we sold out of them at almostevery market.

Our farming philosophy is pretty basic - we want to interfere as littleas possible with nature. We're lucky that we live in such abeautiful area, and we don't want to poison our local environment witha bunch of nasty chemicals, organic or not. We rely almostexclusively on compost for fertilizer, and we don't use pesticides orherbicides. We stick to organic standards as much as possible, but we've decided not to apply for organic certification. We maydo so in the future if we feel it's important to our business.
