Casey Farm is a mid 18th-century homestead overlooking Narragansett Bay which was oncethe center of a plantation that produced food for local and foreignmarkets. Located near Newport, Casey Farm had access to materialgoods imported from England, enabling its early owners to live in afashionable manner.
Prosperity ended with the burning of Newport during theRevolution, and the farm settled into a pattern of absenteeownership.
Starting in the mid 19th century, the Casey family began toimprove the farm. They leased the property to tenant farmers butretained two rooms in the house for their own occasional summer use,as they had come to regard the farm as their ancestral home.
Today, resident farm managers raise organically grown vegetables, herbs, and flowers for subscribing households in a CommunitySupported Agriculture program. The guided tour includes the farmyardand cemetery, where six generations of Caseys are buried.
