Mina Hegaard and Kenyon Gibson, the brother and sister team that forms Minawear, partnered in 1998 to begin designing and manufacturing the groovy California lifestyle line in Los Angeles, CA. Their mission is to make the world of fashion a better place by using sustainable fibers like hemp and organic cotton and manufacturing in "sweat free" environments. They are commited to building a company that has a conscience and a future in a green world.

Currently Mina is designing and heading production in Venice, CA, and Kenyon resides in London, having recently released his long awaited book, "Hemp for Victory" which is now availble through the Minawear site. He is also an artist and author of several conspiracy theory books, and can be contacted through his website, which is a current source for information regarding all things hemp in the world.

As you learn about hemps seemingly endless uses, Mina and Kenyon hope that you enjoy wearing your hemp not only because it is comfortable, cool, and sexy, but also because by choosing a green product you are choosing power and freedom.

Many different people from China to California lovingly craft each Minawear garment from the seed to the final product. If the Minawear team had it their way, it would be grown in the US, but since industrial hemp is illegal to grow in the US, they must import hemp, and continue to vote to legalize farming it. First the hemp and cotton are grown on small family farms in China without the use of harmful pesticides and chemical fertilizers. (Cotton is one of the biggest polluting industries in the world due to chemical fertilizers and pesticides). It is then harvested and processed to be spun together in yarns for knitting and weaving. The fabric then takes a six week boat trip to California where it is unloaded in Long Beach and shipped to their cutter in downtown Los Angeles, California and then to the sewing factory a few miles away. After it is sewn it goes to the dye house down the road to be dyed using the safest most colorfast fiber reactive dyes, and finally enzyme washed to produce their trademark ultra soft hand. They are proud to manufacture in the USA, which makes it possible for them work closely with their factories to ensure decent working conditions and wages for the employees. The end product is karma free, however it costs more money than a sweatshop garment, and they appreciate your understanding and support for the workers in the USA. The workers do too!!

As a green company they use recycled boxes and are careful not to create unnecessary waste with excessive packaging.
