Phone: (917) 657-8384 Standard Finery is a collection created for women who love beautiful clothes but don't need to make a fuss about them. As the name suggests, the company ethos is rooted in well-made, feminine clothes, while keeping in mind that they should be playful, purposeful and wearable. Standard Finery owner and designer, Caron Callahan, constantly inspired by her friends and neighbors, sets out to make clothes for a creative, spirited woman who loves fashion, but doesn't necessarily follow it.
After graduating from the Gallatin School of NYU, Caron pursued her fashion interests first at Barneys New York, working in design for the private label division, and then moved on to Tracy Feith. Working for Tracy as his design assistant for 3 years, Caron fell in love with the balance of creativity and reality that fuels small designers. Looking for her own life inspiration, she left New York for a year and travelled abroad into Asia, Africa, and Europe. Upon returning, she worked immediately with Derek Lam and Steven Alan. With her experiences and education, Standard Finery was created with the intent to marry understated femininity and function.
Inspiration for Spring 2010 came first from a photo of a quiet beach in CapCod with a sensual mood and a spirit of impending fun. Reinterpreting classic New England weekend wears became a springboard for the collection and evolved to include graphic details such as black binding, giving it a more urban appeal. The moody vocals and lyrics of Bill Callahan's latest album Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle established the atmosphere for the ease and subtly of the overall collection.
Standard Finery is manufactured by the talented people of New York City's garment district and uses organic fabrics as much as possible.
