Miette started at the Berkeley Farmers' market in the fall of 2001.Each week, rain or shine, they would set up their pink tent and vintagecake stands to sell their hand-crafted cakes and pastries. Their cakesare traditionally American and at the same time (and in the samebite!), European, modern and understated. They attribute this to theirmany influences, ranging from the precise world of French baking andthe pastry shop windows of Vienna, to illustrations in children's storybooks. Being located in Northern California provides them with thefinest and freshest ingredients available in the world and everythingthey use is from local, family-owned farms and mills, and wheneverpossible, organic and sustainably produced.
No longer at thefarmer's markets, they now sell from their tiny cake boutique in SanFrancisco's famous Ferry Building and, as of January 2007, their lovelycandy shop in Hayes Valley. They invite you to visit their pâtisserieto see their seasonal selection of cakes and cupcakes, tarts, cookies, confections, cake stands and other vintage dessert wares. Or visittheir Confiserie to see old fashioned candy, confections from aroundthe world, treats made by local artisans and organic cotton candy.Made in San Francisco, made in California cakes.
